I love how Giggityhub keeps showing random degrees of brokenness every day
-
tomman
sometimes you open, say, a issue page and comments will not load due to some Chromeism, but you come up 2 day later and comments load just fine... but then something else breaks due to other Chromeism
-
tomman
maybe Microsoft should freeze the whole UI in permafrost and fire the entire developer team (that will be great for Accounting and stockholders!)
-
tomman
oh, but comments DO load on pull requests!
-
tomman
UI consistency is like job #3524636225.3 at Giggityhub, it seems
-
njsg
it's probably handed by a 80586 FPU emulator
-
njsg
and as the html is full of divs...
-
njsg
-
njsg
now only if mastodon could present the blurb information in this "enable javascript" page...
-
njsg
(please don't tell me that Mastodon includes the *entire* post as a description meta tag, yet can't show it statically...)
-
mrnhmath
hi nsITobin, pardon my abscence
-
Sompi
now Facebook also doesn't work on Seamonkey anymore
-
Sompi
and when I try to access the mbasic subdomain, it says that "facebook does not work with this browser" and tells to download either firefox or chrome
-
Sompi
tomman: github has never worked well with Firefox either
-
Sompi
I have no idea why people still use it
-
Sompi
it is always broken
-
Sompi
and same with Facebook
-
Sompi
-
nsITobin
use a post-modern browser or use the app on your phone as you are intended to. No one uses facebook on a computer anymore silly Sompi
-
tomman
Sompi: because Giggityhub is mandatory for any software dev if you wanna have a CV acceptable by Silly Con Valley
-
tomman
FWIW Giggitylab also engages in the same sabotage
-
tomman
but a prospective employer from Big Money IT Co. will ALWAYS look at yout Giggityhub profile
-
tomman
(of course that's reason #3425432 I'm unemployable :D )
-
Sompi
how do I feel that in the recent years the coercing to technological monoculture has became increasingly more aggressive
-
tomman
because Moneyâ„¢
-
Sompi
basically nothing works anymore without a boot locked x86-64 or ARM PC and Firefox or Chrome
-
nsITobin
github is microsoft microsoft defacto owns the chromium windows branch in exchange for top google chrome support and cleartype so its gonna push guess what.. the whatwg.. facebook has always catored to chromeisms that youtube and google office shit is what drove SO MANY browser parity bugs in the 2010s
-
Sompi
And Windows or OS X or Android or iOS
-
Sompi
but why people just accept this
-
Sompi
I remember when Firefox became a big thing, everyone just wanted to rebel against Microsoft and IE
-
Sompi
now suddenly those same people are coercing others to the technological monoculture
-
nsITobin
Firefox was a trap
-
nsITobin
a very successful one
-
Sompi
What changed?
-
nsITobin
xml was too hard i guess
-
tomman
Sompi: cellphones happened
-
Sompi
But why the mindset of those people changed
-
tomman
or more precisely, the iPhone happened
-
Sompi
But why the mindset of those people changed
-
tomman
people consider that variety is a sin these days because thinking is, y'know, painful
-
tomman
hence why monocultures win
-
Sompi
Now those same people are genuinely ANGRY towards everyone who don't comply with the monoculture
-
Sompi
not just angry, they are furious
-
tomman
because that implies "OMG I would have to work extra to please those fringe nerds using that noname browser!!!! My life would be easier if everybody just used Thy Holy Chrome!"
-
tomman
or for the technosexuals, "only Chrome pushes the boundaries and I like pushing things forward"
-
Sompi
they are furiously angry like an autistic kid with temper problems, while calling me an autist
-
tomman
tech these days value uniformity because that means more milking and less work
-
tomman
it would be like if all car dealers in your country were Ford dealers
-
tomman
you may hate Fords, but mechanics in your city do not want to repair Chevys or Toyotas
-
nsITobin
Sompi: perhaps its because now that technology is broadly acceptable don't want the mass of dumbasses to reject their magic slabs of glass and come after them with muscles and bad attitudes
-
nsITobin
also conformity and devotion is often the only way to get ahead in most circles regardless
-
nsITobin
remember tech managers and ceos are largely dumbasses and if they did know tech when they started they almost certainly don't care enough to know any more than if it is profitable or not
-
nsITobin
now
-
njsg
tomman: github is pretty much facebook for coding, IMHO
-
nsITobin
njsg: that is exactly what i was thinking
-
nsITobin
wonder when it will be merged into linkedin
-
nsITobin
and skype
-
njsg
Sompi: I'm not even sure some mindsets did change, I mean, I'm kind of finding myself in the same situation that there was in early 2000s: people using proprietary MS formats, IE-only sites, and a need to push for portable and interoperable approaches
-
njsg
now it's kind of the same problem, but I've not tried to do some analysis of the why
-
nsITobin
I just commented on BinOC how I am effectively where I started...
-
njsg
but it *is* annoying that some people that ought to be pushing for interoperable and accessible are doing the opposite
-
nsITobin
one would think
-
njsg
also, there was that glimpse of a worse future to come back then, when the push became "you need to use a standard format/protocol" and it was obvious to me that the bad players would just have their proprietarý ones standardized somehow
-
njsg
come Office Open XML and people being reportedly rejected from standardization meetings because of lack of chairs
-
nsITobin
XML in its entirety is somehow the most horrific thing to have ever happened
-
njsg
JSONx.
-
Sompi
In Finland schools still use .doc because open standards would be an ideological choice but using closed proprietary formats is neutral
-
tomman
Sompi: normal people don't even know what's a "file format", much less a "open standard"
-
tomman
and there is no interest into adding that as part of what kids learn in the education system
-
tomman
for many peoples a "file format" might be the same as "airplane parts"
-
tomman
ignorance is bliss, they say, and many people just want to get shit done, damned be the consequences :/
