(the only issue on SeaMonkey so far is the missing progress bar, haven't checked why... other than that, wolfgirls don't really discriminate)

publishing SM 2.53.21B1 for Windows without code signing is a bad idea as Microsoft Defender blocks unsigned executable in our company
-
frg_Away
the alternative to not code signing would currently be not publiushing it at all. It takes time to build new signing infra

news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43867912 oooh, the Anubis dev is aware of us, "small browsers"
-
tomman
see, wolfgirls can't be evil by nature :P
-
tomman
...hope she never becomes a sellout, although you CAN buy a license if you want to be able to ditch the wolfgirl for something more "profeshunal"

also love how people complain that "I don't allow JS nor cookies, the Internet is broken, you suck!" and yet propose no solutions for the bot/scraper threat that is actually destroying websites
-
Harzilein
i personally _like_ to occasionally have a look at everything with just yesscript and no other website content changing extensions. but i like when i can use bookmarklets :)
-
Harzilein
also fwiw librejs works nicely as that kind of extension too.
-

hn especially often makes it "muh ad blocker", but it's really just... it used to be fine turning off js until you needed it. and it looks like with anubis, sites may well choose to have me have js once for getting the cookie and then surf on with whatever can present it, same browser session with js off, wget, dillo ;)
-
tomman
"Please unblock us at your adblocker, pretty please!"
-
tomman
sorry, can't
-
tomman
I don't even run an adblocker
-
tomman
what blocks ad hosts is my DNS server, therefore client-side exceptions are not viable, sorry :P
-
nikolam
tomman, me to am not running any ad blocker, ever. I just use Noscript on Firefox for many years to block javascript not related to functionality and stop spying from google scripts statistics etc..
-
tomman
A DNS blocklist not only boosts your adblocker, it also works on devices where you can't install adblockers easily, like anything Android
-
tomman
it also saves bandwidth
-
tomman
I avoid client-side tools (adblockers/script blockers) whenever possible, I prefer to not let the suckers even get the chance to enter my network
-
Tekk
tomman: I don't think you understand how adblockers work.
-
Tekk
They allow even less traffic than a dns based solution
-
tomman
don't "well ackshually" me
-
Tekk
The dns query is never even made
-
tomman
I know how it works, and I run my own DNS server at home
-
tomman
and for me my approach works well since I have to deal with devices other than web browsers on PCs
-
tomman
if I need extra protection, then yes, I'll install an adblocker
-
tomman
(and currently I do that on Firefox/Fennec mobile, since my phones have to roam on networks other than mine)
-
tomman
yay, imgur now wants dynamic imports
-
tomman
otherwise, you get a GSoD
-
tomman
this also renders Imgur links unusable, since "
i.imgur.com/blah.jpg" will be redirected to "
imgur.com/blah"

tomman: javascript is needed to view a picture don't you know
-
nsITobin
you deff can't do a server side solution to prevent hotlinkingh
-
nsITobin
no way
-
tomman
in the meanwhile, Clownflare's craptcha behavior have changed today here
-
tomman
you still get punished with "machine-specific length of time" hang, but eventually you DO get a clickable and passable challenge

tomman: btw if steam is your shell and steam launches explorer it will start the shell.. HOWEVER in big picture mode its a bit fucky..
-
nsITobin
and of course the taskbar margin gets set so stop playing explorer.exe isn't that useful either
-
nsITobin
but my Redmond Edition SteamOS is coming along until chrome fucks windows 10 over
-
nsITobin
then i guess I will not play games on steam
-
nsITobin
proton doesn't run everything i would want to play even if i force it to try..
-
tomman
eh, Proton works fine for the stuff I've tried so far... except for THIS ONE BASTARD JAPANESE GAME
-
tomman
but then Japanese games barely run on Windows PCs...
